Isaiah: Yahweh Dwells in Zion—with Curt Thomas Often called the ‘fifth Gospel,’ the Old Testament book of Isaiah dominates seasons of Advent, Christmas, and Epiphany—one third of Old Testament readings come from Isaiah. This in-depth study affords a clear portrait of Isaiah’s overall, complex vision that includes the Assyrian and Babylonian eras, the Messiah and His work, and ultimately the new creation. It covers an overview of Isaiah’s prophecies, and includes life and congregational applications. The study guide is written by Mark Borchert and Edward Engelbrecht, Concordia’s God’s Abiding Word series. All are welcome.
The Teachings of Jesus—with Don Hall A wide range of diverse topics are addressed by Jesus, which will be explored in this look at significant events in the life and teachings of Jesus. Intriguing chapter titles suggest relevant subjects as important today and they were in Jesus’ time: Pass the salt: Living a blessed life; Hey diddle, diddle, every jot and tittle; Murder he re-wrote, Holy vow! keeping your word and being faithful; What an extraordinary love; Show me the treasure; Stress less; Follow the narrow, brick road; and others. Written by Steven B. Borst, from Concordia’s Life of Jesus series. Study materials will be available, and all are welcome.
What Lutherans Believe and Why—New Members Class—with Ron Stiegler and Cathy Knight Luther’s Small Catechism of 1529 was designed to be the family’s Christian handbook. The “layman’s Bible” provides a brief, and clear summary of God’s Word on the essentials of the Christian faith: Ten Commandments, Creed, Lord’s Prayer, Baptism, Absolution, Lord’s Supper. This course is designed for parents, especially those with children in Confirmation, and those who are interested in knowing more about what Lutherans believe, and how we are to live as God’s people (Law) in the Good News of Jesus’ life, death, and resurrection for our salvation (Gospel). Texts are the Bible and Luther’s Small Catechism. All are welcome.
